Creat a Flickr account. 1st rxn: panic attack. Back arched, fur whooshing 2 stand at 90 degree angle, tail erect, ears pointing forward, pupils dilated, lil’ tickr pounding n . . . yup . . . can’t hold it back: frenzied round the house schiz attack!!!

On a practical level: took MULTIPLE attempts 2 create a Yahoo account coz my poor cat eyes struggled 2 read the Code (remember: our vision is superior at night in the dark and 4 hunting prey – not sitting at a screen during the day, immobile). Then . . . several attempts 2 upload my buddy icon. Took a while 2 work out the problem was that my image size exceeded the limit. Doh! How about a msg explaining that? I swear u humans thrive on setting up time-wasting obstacles 4 yourselves.

Extra time-wasters? Uploading a bunch of photos, just 2 find out that 2 didn’t fit. Losing all the photos that I uploaded coz I clicked on the back arrow 2 see if I could delete just one of them. Second go: 3 photos bonged out. How about letting us know what the limit is? I didn’t see that info in any obvious spot. And what’s with the un-sequencing of purposely sequenced photos – and with vertical shots coming out horizontal? What, 2 edit these I have 2 go on a “picnik” just 2 find I can’t see any of the 5 photos it tells me 2 double click on 2 edit? Somehow, by the lucky stroke of a cat’s whisker, I’ve stumbled 2 a place where I’ve enabled myself 2 rotate the photos – discovering in the process that I’ve now doubled up on the same photos coz the ones that disappeared earlier apparently have been locked in all along. Try deleting the original ones since I’ve replaced them with the 2nd set – but they  linger like phantoms. Still no idea how 2 re-sequence the photos. And why isn’t the extra photo that I added showing up on the slideshow???

Hiss!!! I have soooooo had enough of human technology. We cats are NOT cut out 4 it.  I’ve lost sooooo much valuable time that I really cannot spare, especially at this time of year. Plz remember that, as a cat, I have 2 work over n above human time 2 get my head around all this stuff – but I actually have less time coz human hours translate into cat years – and the h-o-u-r-s I have wasted in frustration represent years that I’ve taken off my cat time. Yowling M-i-a-o-w!!!

Thank u all 4 your company but I’m outta here. I’m a cat – and I’m content with the ways of my species. I wish u well in these 23 adventures. I’m happy enough 2 dip in now n then 2 get a glimpse of who’s at where  – n still give the odd thing or 2 a go but, otherwise, I return 2 my cat world. Give me chillin’ over stressin’ any day. Should Swinburne TAFE decide 2 hold actual training sessions in these technologies, I’ll be happy 2 jump on board again – and even encourage the other cats in my ‘hood. Paw high-5. Miaow! :-)

  1. Hi Chillinchico,
You have done an awesome job and I hope you had fun, which is the whole point of it.
The 23 Things is an initiative which is world wide and is always self paced, however online learning is not suitable for everyone!
Good news is at hand though. We will be releasing an annual calendar of workshops soon for the Centre of VET Practice and quite a lot of these ‘things’ will be incorporated.
Well done for getting as far as you did!!

  2. P.S I think the most valuable task is the Google Docs. You will find it fantastic for students and working collaboratively with your collegues.
You are welcome to tap back into it if you like (when we get to that week).
    Jen

  3. HI Cat dude if you are still out there I was comforted by your struggles as I too find so much of this technology so unwieldy and far too many steps and not enough explicit instruction – so hopefully I will stick in there and maybe you have too?
